Woodland Park Zoo’s new python gets a name

Woodland Park Zoo recently received a new reticulated python (weighing in at 100 pounds), and asked the public to help name him through Facebook.  They received lots of suggestions (including what I thought would be a shoe-in, Monty), and keepers at the zoo narrowed it down to their five favorites for a vote.

The winning name is Kaa, named after the python in “The Jungle Book.” Kaa received an overwhelming majority of the votes with 44%.  The runner-up was Sundara (meaning “beautiful” in Hindi), followed by Java.  The other two name options were Rimbo and Pogi.

Welcome to north Seattle, Kaa!
