This week, contractors began grading the new community garden space at Greenwood Park. In the coming days, they will also be building a concrete wall and fence, creating crushed gravel pathways, and installing benches.
The work is expected to be completed by the time of the Third Annual Party in Greenwood Park on Sunday, August 14th, from noon to 4pm. Mayor McGinn will be there for the ribbon cutting at 1:30pm, and there will be live music from Pickled Okra and the River Rust.
Simultaneously, work continues on the art project for the garden. Neighbors are invited to contribute by attending a design workshop for the art pieces that will go on the garden fence on Wednesday, July 27th at 7p.m. at 9528 Dayton Avenue.
If you’re not terribly creative, you can also help out by donating – Vision Greenwood, the group behind the new space, still needs to raise $2500 to finish the garden. You can donate online here, or donate at Bingo Karaoke at the Greenwood Senior Center on Friday, July 29th.
Also, keep your ears open for additional volunteer work parties to build the tool shed, compost bins, and raised garden beds.
Thank you, Vision Greenwood, for bringing us this new neighborhood space!
